If you work remotely for a non-Colombian company or run your own foreign business (yes, freelancers and entrepreneurs can apply), you can legally live in Colombia on the Digital Nomad Visa.

Minimum Income

The Colombia Digital Nomad Visa Process
Step 1
Eligibility Check
Schedule a Freedom consult with our team of relocation experts or review the official list to make sure you qualify, especially your income source and employment status.
Step 2
Document Gathering
Get your passport, proof of income, insurance, accommodation, police report, and all other necessary documents together before you start the application with the Freedom Files.
Step 3
Submit Application
Upon your payment of government-related fees to the visa process, the Freedom Files will submit your application for the Colombia Digital Nomad Visa.
Step 4
Attend Interview
Some applicants, especially if they have any glaring inconsistencies, are asked for a virtual or in-person interview. In the case you’re called for an interview with the Colombian consulate, the Freedom Files will help you prepare.
Step 5
Visa Approval
If your application is approved, the Freedom Files will email you your Colombia Digital Nomad Visa. Print it out, keep a copy with your passport, and save a digital copy as well.
Step 6
Enter Colombia
If you applied for the Digital Nomad Visa from outside Colombia, arrive with your new visa. Show your documents to the custom agent at the airport.
Step 7
Register with Migración
Upon arrival in Colombia, get your cédula (foreigner ID) within 15 days. The Freedom Files will arrange for your biometrics appointments and further steps.
Step 8
Maintain Compliance
In order to renew your visa at its expiration, keep your health insurance active, your criminal record clean, and your foreign income stable. Do not take on Colombian clients or work inside Colombian territory.

Renewal or Exit

What are the Colombia Digital Nomad Visa processing costs?

Can the Colombia Digital Nomad Visa lead to citizenship?
No. The Digital Nomad Visitor (V) visa does not provide a pathway to permanent residency or citizenship in Colombia. If you want a long-term future in Colombia after your Digital Nomad Visa expires, you’ll need to switch to a Migrant (M) visa. Will I pay Colombian taxes on the Digital Nomad Visa?
You’ll only become a Colombia tax resident and be liable for taxes on your worldwide income if you stay more than 183 days in a 365-day period. Unfortunately, the Colombia Digital Nomad Visa does not offer any tax exemptions as other remote work visas may (like Costa Rica’s).Â

If all documents are correct, approval can take as little as 2-4 weeks. However, the bulk of the timeline is in gathering your documents and criminal record in the country of your residence. Delays are common if paperwork is missing or needs extra translation.
