Money can’t buy happiness. But freedom can.
Being able to do what you want when you want where you want gives you unlimited control over your life. Think about that.
And the best thing about freedom is that it’s 100% unattainable.
Two years ago, I was working a 9-5 job in the middle of the United States. Living contently. But it wasn’t my dream.
So I did something about it. I chose to pursue freedom. And in just two years, my life has flipped upside down.
I’m a new person with new ambitions on the path to ultimate freedom. One step closer every day.
So you want to be happy and make enough money to support the life you want to live? Freedom is your compass. Your guiding light.
Here are 3 reasons why:
1. You aren’t free until you control your schedule
Does this sound like you?
- You work 9-5 every weekday in a dimly lit office
- You have to get permission to go to the doctor for god’s sake
- No matter how much value you create, you have a limit on how much you earn
This was me two years ago. Until I learned an important lesson – Time is my most precious resource.
“The new rich are those who abandon the deferred-life plan and create luxury lifestyles in the present using the currency of the New Rich: Time and mobility.”
— Tim Ferriss, The 4-Hour Workweek
You can always find a way to earn more money. But time. Time is the only resource you can’t create.
So how do you control your own time? Really, there’s only one answer:
Transition from a 9-to-5 job to entrepreneurship where you own all decisions. You decide when to work, where to work and how to work.
So that’s what I did. I quit my job with zero plans for the future. But I believed in my ability to earn money on the internet.
Two years ago and $300k in revenue later, I’ve done it.
I get it, I get it. Running your own business isn’t for everyone.
But if you have the slightest pull toward entrepreneurship, it’s time to make your exit plan. There’s a reason most entrepreneurs say, “I can’t imagine working for someone else again.”
2. Diversify your investments to minimize risk
Ever read the Fourth Turning?
I’m no expert. But something tells me the global political and economic landscape is changing. In the next world phase, the traditional rules of finance won’t apply.
That’s what the Fourth Turning is about. It makes the case for a massive global event shaking up the world’s power dynamics.
Can you imagine if tomorrow, the Chinese Yuan became the world’s reserve currency?
What you do now to prepare for that wave will determine how you emerge from it. Sink or swim.
Diversification is more than just a strategy. In 2023 I think it’s a necessity. Protect yourself against …
- the dollar being removed as the global reserve currency
- governments around the world passing radical tax policies
- citizens being stripped of their freedoms each and every day
This isn’t science fiction. This isn’t conspiracy. Here’s an example:
By spreading your investments across different assets and currencies, you protect yourself from being overexposed to one currency, one fund or one market.
These are the 3 main ways I’m investing my hard-earned money:
- Bitcoin
- US index funds
- International real estate
3. Ultimate freedom is location independence
In that new world order, the last thing you want to be is tied down to a single location. If your birth country decides to go AWOL, you should have a plan to get out.
The world is full of opportunities. And each country has its positives and negatives. There’s no such thing as the perfect location.
However, location independence allows you to find the best option for you and your values. Personally, this is what I look for:
- Low tax
- Close to a global city
- Access to rejuvenating nature
- Warm weather without humidity
- Healthy, happy, active population
- Bustling entrepreneurship ecosystem
- Mountainous environment, not beach
- Traditional family structure and gender roles
- Low involvement from government in daily life
In just the last two years, I’ve lived in 7 countries around Latin America in search for the people, culture and economy that make me happiest. I’ve settled on Colombia, and for that reason, I bought a home there.
But what makes me happy won’t necessarily make you happy. That’s why travel is so important.
Explore. Discover what you value in a homebase.
Then diversify. Stack residencies and passports like you do investments.
- Time
- Money
- Mobility
Once you master all three, you’re free. So how do you do it?
- Control your own schedule with a remote job or your own business
- Diversify your assets to protect against risk
- Become location independent
